Reporting by Paul Ring • ring@energychoicematters.com

PPL continues to see an acceleration in the decline of residential customers on competitive electric supply, while Pennsylvania statewide residential customer shopping increased during June after a decline in May

Specifically, from late May to late June, PPL saw the number of residential customers on competitive supply decrease by a net of 3,500 customers, versus a decline of 2,600 accounts from April to May, a decline of 1,100 accounts from March to April, and declines of less than 1,000 in both March and February.

The acceleration in the declines coincides with a decrease in PPL's Price to Compare effective June 1

In contrast, PECO saw residential shopping increase by 2,600 accounts from late May to late June, which is faster growth than the increase of approximately 1,500 residential shoppers in both May and April.

Statewide, Pennsylvania saw the number of residential customer on competitive supply increase by 800 accounts from late May to late June. That compares to a net decline of 1,300 statewide residential shoppers from late April to late May, which had broken six consecutive months of aggregate residential shopping growth.

The change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each utility from late May 2016 to late June 2016 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) was:

Duquesne Light (849)
Met-Ed 852
PECO 2,613
Penelec 473
Penn Power 237
PPL (3,469)
West Penn Power 988
