Reporting by Paul Ring • ring@energychoicematters.com

PECO and the FirstEnergy utilities (Penelec in particular) continue to drive residential electric shopping growth in Pennsylvania, while PPL saw another month of declining residential shopping.

Specifically, from late June to late July, PPL saw the number of residential customers on competitive supply decrease by a net of 2,700 accounts, versus a loss of 3,500 residential shopping accounts from May to June, a decline of 2,600 accounts from April to May, a decline of 1,100 accounts from March to April, and declines of less than 1,000 in both March and February.

The declines coincide with a decrease in PPL's Price to Compare effective June 1

In contrast, PECO saw residential shopping increase by 2,400 accounts from late June to late July, in-line with the increase of 2,600 residential shopping accounts from late May to late June

Statewide, Pennsylvania saw the number of residential customer on competitive supply increase by 2,200 accounts from late June to late July. That compares to a net increase of 800 statewide residential shoppers from late May to late June.

The change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each utility from late June 2016 to late July 2016 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) was:

Duquesne Light (228)
Met-Ed 651
PECO 2,390
Penelec 1,528
Penn Power 120
PPL (2,743)
West Penn Power 554
