Exelon Says Further Merchant Plant Sales Possible
Exelon said during an analyst day that it is engaged in an asset rationalization process, which it undertakes annually, to determine where the market values its merchant generation
Noting that Exelon has not hesitated in the past to sell assets where the market valued them higher than what Exelon could earn from the assets, Chris Crane, Exelon President & Chief Executive Officer, said the company would continue that approach, stating, "we'll take the opportunity to monetize some of our merchant assets as we see the market valuing them higher than we can."
Crane added that in addition to sales, the asset rationalization process may result in retirements, such as shutting down peakers that aren't carrying their own weight
