ERCOT Preliminary Determination Says Calpine Clear Lake Units Needed For Transmission Reliability

ERCOT has issued an initial determination stating that Calpine's units CTL_GT_102, CTL_GT_103, CTL_GT_104, CTL_ST_101, CTL_ST_102 (Clear Lake) are needed to support ERCOT transmission system reliability.

On August 11, 2016 ERCOT received a Notification of Suspension of Operations (NSO) for Calpine units CTL_GT_102, CTL_GT_103, CTL_GT_104, CTL_ST_101, CTL_ST_102

The proposed effective date for the suspension of Calpine CTL_GT_102, CTL_GT_103, CTL_GT_104, CTL_ST_101, and CTL_ST_102 is February 1, 2017.

Pursuant to requirements under ERCOT Protocols Section 3.14.1.2 (3), ERCOT issued an initial determination that these generation resources are needed to support ERCOT transmission system reliability.

ERCOT intends to continue to review the impacts of this NSO on transmission system reliability, in coordination with the impacted transmission owners, in an effort to develop alternative solutions. On or before October 10, 2016, ERCOT will issue its final determination of whether these generation resources are necessary for providing voltage support, stability or management of localized transmission constraints under applicable reliability criteria.
