New York Utilities Seek Approval For Territory-Wide Deployment Of Smart Meters (AMI)
New York State Electric & Gas Corporation (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation (RG&E) have petitioned the New York PSC for approval of the territory-wide deployment of advanced metering infrastructure for their electricity and gas meters
AMI meters and the communication network are planned to be rolled out over a four-year period beginning in 2018 with an anticipated completion in 2021
Nearly 1.8 million smart meters would be installed under the territory-wide deployment
In their application, the utilities noted that, "AMI will facilitate customer access to value-added products and services provided by third parties such as Energy Service Companies ('ESCOs')."
