Michigan electric utilities have filed initial levels for the 2017 10% choice caps.

The initial caps are based on 11 months of 2016 data and forecasted December 2016 data; final caps will be issued in January 2017 once December data is available.

At DTE Energy, the 2017 initial electric choice cap is 4,752,672 MWh. Current electric choice participation at DTE (4,822,056 MWh) exceeds the 2017 initial cap

At Consumers Energy, the 2017 initial electric choice cap is 3,712,612 MWh. Current electric choice participation at Consumers (3,939,197 MWh) exceeds the 2017 initial cap

At Indiana Michigan Power (AEP), the 2017 initial electric choice cap is 285,095 MWh. There is currently no electric choice participation at Indiana Michigan Power

At the newly formed Upper Michigan Energy Resources Corporation, covering the former Michigan service areas of Wisconsin Electric Power Company and Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, the 2017 initial electric choice cap is 89,569 MWh. Note that the cap is based on total sales of the legacy WEPCo and WPS rate zones without the Empire Mine or Tilden Mine sales. Current choice data for WEPCo includes the mines, and thus an accurate picture of what space, if any, will be available under the new cap when such sales are excluded was not immediately available.

At Upper Peninsula Power Company, the 2017 initial electric choice cap is 82,060 MWh. Current choice sales are 80,299 MWh; however, the 2016 cap (86,741 MWh) is in excess of current choice sales but the choice energy allotment available is reported as zero with 41,472 MWh in the queue.
