Subsidiary of Submetering Company To Seek Retail Supplier Licenses, Act As Supplier

NEP Energy Services, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Nationwide Energy Partners, LLC, applied for market-based rate authorization at FERC and stated that it intends to act as a retail supplier

"NEP Energy intends to engage in the provision of energy to retail customers in states where deregulation has been legislated. NEP Energy therefore anticipates providing electricity to retail customers within the PJM service area and in states where deregulation has been legislated. Accordingly, NEP Energy is in the process of obtaining a competitive retail electric supplier license from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to serve retail customers within Ohio," NEP Energy said.

NEP Energy said that its sole owner, Nationwide Energy, has provided energy management solutions to multi-family property owners since 1999. NEP Energy said that Nationwide Energy partners with apartment and condominium communities to provide various energy related administerial services such as meter reading, billing, and collections support on behalf of its apartment and condominium community partners.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio is currently engaged in a proceeding to determine whether submetering constitutes utility service (see story here)
