Nevada Gov. Names Members For Committee On Energy Choice (No Retail Suppliers Among Members)
Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval announced his appointments to the Governor’s Committee on Energy Choice.
As previously reported by RetailEnergyX.com, Sandoval had previously announced the committee (without naming specific members at such time) in noting that Nevada voters were "likely" to adopt electric choice, and charged the committee with studying various issues related to such transition and making proposals to address such issues, including:
• Protecting consumers from rate increases caused by the opening of energy markets
• Addressing stranded investments
• Providing Nevadans with energy choice as soon as reasonably practical or possible
No representative from a retail energy supplier was named to the committee.
Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison will serve as Chairman of the Committee
"The Committee will begin a year-long analysis and plan for a path forward should the [second electric choice] Initiative pass so consumers and providers alike will be prepared to navigate the complexities of its implementation," Sandoval

As previously reported, On November 8, 2016, the voters of Nevada approved Ballot Question 3: The Energy Choice Initiative, which would amend the Nevada Constitution if voters approve the Initiative again in the 2018 general election. By approving such initiative, Nevada voters supported a state policy that, "electricity markets be open and competitive so that all electricity customers are afforded meaningful choice among different providers, and that economic and regulatory burdens be minimized in order to promote competition and choices in the electric energy market."
