With ERCOT Multi-Interval Real-Time Market Being Shelved, PUC's Anderson Says ERCOT Should Move Forward With Co-optimization

With Texas PUC Commissioners agreeing with an ERCOT assessment to not move forward with implementation of a Multi-Interval Real-Time Market at this time, due to costs exceeding benefits (see story here), Commissioner Kenneth Anderson said that ERCOT should move forward with co-optimization of the real-time market

"I think now it's important that ERCOT move ahead with co-optimization," Anderson said at yesterday's open meeting

While not wanting to put an unrealistic time frame on ERCOT consideration of co-optimization, Anderson asked that ERCOT get back to the Commission, "pretty quickly."

"I don't want this rattling around at ERCOT in never-never land," Anderson said

While costs of implementing co-optimization has been a hindrance in the past, Anderson cited the cost of the recent Greens Bayou reliability must-run agreement, stating, "If it [co-optimization] avoids just one more Greens Bayou, then it's paid for itself."
