The month of May saw the net decline in number of Pennsylvania residential electric customers on competitive supply more than double versus April 2017, but PPL saw its first net residential shopping growth since October 2015, according to the latest stats on PA Power Switch

From late April 2017 to late May 2017 (reporting date varies slightly by utility), Pennsylvania saw the aggregate number of electric customers on competitive supply decrease by 4,800 accounts, more than double the decline of 1,800 accounts seen from late March 2017 to late April 2017

The net decline of 4,800 residential accounts on competitive supply was the largest net monthly decline in statewide electric shopping since September 2015 (when a net decline of 22,000 accounts was recorded)

PECO, which prior to April 2017 had not recorded a net monthly decline in the number of residential customers on competitive supply since July 2014, saw a second consecutive month in which the number of residential customers on competitive supply decreased. At PECO, May saw a net decline of 3,200 residential customers on competitive supply, following the net decline of 1,000 residential customers in April.

PPL, however, saw during May its first net growth in the number of residential accounts on competitive supply since October 2015, with net growth of 107 accounts

The change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each large utility from late April 2017 to late May 2017 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) was:

Duquesne Light (771)
Met-Ed 441
PECO (3,210)
Penelec (767)
Penn Power (253)
PPL 107
West Penn Power (309)

For comparison, the change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each utility from late March 2017 to late April 2017 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) had been:

Duquesne Light (448)
Met-Ed 526
PECO (1,137)
Penelec 810
Penn Power (153)
PPL (1,394)
West Penn Power (10)
