Reporting by Paul Ring • ring@energychoicematters.com

NRG Energy reported that its Retail unit saw mass market customer growth during the quarter ending June 30, 2017 (second quarter)

NRG's Retail business saw a net increase in mass market recurring customer count of 55,000 from Q1 2017 to Q2 2017.

That compares to the net increase in mass market customer count of 14,000 recorded from Q4 2016 to Q1 2017.

NRG Retail's mass market recurring customer count stood at 2.887 million as of Q2 2017, versus 2.832 million as of Q1 2017

The mass market recurring customer count excludes C&I and NRG Home Solar customers. Mass recurring customer count includes customers that subscribe to one or more recurring services, such as electricity and natural gas

NRG Retail volumes were 15.2 TWh for Q2 2017 versus 14.8 TWh a year ago

The Retail segment recorded second quarter Adjusted EBITDA of $203 million, $13 million lower than the $216 million posted in the second quarter of 2016, due primarily to lower margins from mild weather and higher supply costs, which was partially offset by customer growth and reduced operating costs.
