ERCOT: Monticello Units Not Needed For Transmission System Reliability
On October 6, 2017, ERCOT received a Notification of Suspension of Operations (NSO) for the following Generation Resources: LUMINANT GENERATION COMPANY LLC (RE) – Monticello Unit 1 (MNSES_UNIT1), Monticello Unit 2 (MNSES_UNIT2), and Monticello Unit 3 (MNSES_UNIT3)
The proposed effective date for the suspension of LUMINANT GENERATION COMPANY LLC (RE) – Monticello Unit 1 (MNSES_UNIT1), Monticello Unit 2 (MNSES_UNIT2), and Monticello Unit 3 (MNSES_UNIT3) is January 4, 2018.
Pursuant to requirements under ERCOT Protocols Section 3.14.1.2 (3), ERCOT issued an initial determination that these Generation Resources are not required to support ERCOT transmission system reliability. Pursuant to Section 3.14.1.2 (5), such notice will also serve as the final determination, and the Resources may be decommissioned according to the schedule in the NSO.
The NSO had indicated that Luminant Generation Company LLC (Luminant) will decommission and retire the above-referenced Generation Resources permanently on January 4, 2018. The NSO further identified the Generation Resources as having the following summer Seasonal Net Max/Minimum Sustainable Ratings:
Monticello Unit 1 (MNSES_UNIT1)
Seasonal Net Max Sustainable Rating (MW): 535
Seasonal Net Minimum Sustainable Rating (MW): 210
Monticello Unit 2 (MNSES_UNIT2)
Seasonal Net Max Sustainable Rating (MW): 535
Seasonal Net Minimum Sustainable Rating (MW): 210
Monticello Unit 3 (MNSES_UNIT3)
Seasonal Net Max Sustainable Rating (MW): 795
Seasonal Net Minimum Sustainable Rating (MW): 320
