PUC Approves Increase In Utility's Residential, Small C&I Default Service Rate

The New Hampshire PUC has approved new electric default service rates at Liberty Utilities (Granite State Electric), for the six-month period February 1, 2018, through July 31, 2018, resulting from a recent competitive procurement

For the GSE residential and small commercial customer group (Small Customer Group), the default service rate for the six-month period February 1, 2018, through July 31, 2018 will be 8.931 cents per kWh, which includes RPS and reconciliations costs. That compares to the current default service rate of 8.644 cents per kWh and the year-ago rate of 7.630 cents per kWh for the February through July 2017 default service period.

GSE attributed the increase in the commodity cost to the doubling of the cost of meeting Forward Capacity Market obligations and uncertainty regarding what the actual costs will be during the 2017-2018 winter period

For the Large Customer Group, new default service rates are as follows:

February 2018    12.068 
March 2018        9.383 
April 2018        7.935 
May 2018          7.323 
June 2018         7.902 
July 2018         8.046 

Exelon Generation Company, LLC was selected to supply all of the energy requirements of the Small Customer Group for the six-month period.

Vitol, Inc. was selected to supply both three-month blocks of energy service to its Large Customer Group (through July 2018)
