DTE, Other Michigan Utilities File Initial Levels For 2018 Electric Choice Caps

Several more Michigan utilities have filed initial amounts for the 2018 electric choice caps

Initial cap amounts are based on 11 months of actual sales data and a forecast of December 2017 data. The initial caps will be updated in late January based on full year 2017 data.

Detroit Edison (DTE) reported its weather-adjusted sales for 2017 as 47,232,274 MWh, resulting in an initial cap of 4,723,227 MWh. Current choice participation at DTE is 4,914,219 MWh and exceeds the initial cap. DTE has 3,007 enrollments representing 4,028,898 MWh in its choice queue

Upper Michigan Energy Resource Corporation reported weather-adjusted retail sales of 887,659 MWh and reported its initial 10% cap as 88,766 MWh. As of November 2017, choice participation at Upper Michigan Energy Resource Corporation was 263,302 MWh, exceeding the initial cap. As of November 2017, Upper Michigan Energy Resource Corporation had 1 enrollment representing 119,144 MWh in its choice queue

Upper Peninsula Power Company reported weather-adjusted retail sales of 731,693 MWh plus choice sales of 86,610 MWh, and reported its initial Alternative Energy Supplier (AES) cap as 81,830 MWh. As of November 2017, choice participation at Upper Peninsula Power Company was 87,261 MWh, exceeding the initial cap. As of November 2017, Upper Peninsula Power Company had 63 customers representing 41,472 MWh in its choice queue

Northern States Power Company (Xcel Energy) reported its weather-adjusted sales for 2017 as 138,573 MWh, resulting in an initial cap of 13,857 MWh. Northern States Power Company currently has no customers with active or enrolled choice load

Alpena Power Company reported weather-adjusted retail sales of 356,225 MWh. Alpena therefore calculates that the initial cap for AES sales would have been 35,623 MWh. However pursuant to MCL 460.10a(1)(c), Alpena’s choice cap had previously been adjusted to 0% for 2018.
