Michigan Utilities File Final 10% Electric Choice Caps For 2018
Michigan electric utilities filed final levels for their 2018 choice caps
DTE Electric Company reported that its weather-adjusted retail sales for calendar year 2017 were 47,205,934 MWh, resulting in a final 10% choice cap of 4,720,593 MWh. Current choice participation at DTE is 4,910,889 MWh. As of January 31, DTE had 3,002 enrollments representing 4,025,040 MWh in its choice queue.
Consumers Energy reported that its 2017 weather normalized & adjusted retail sales were 37,172,389 MWh and that the final 2018 choice cap (10%) is 3,717,239 MWh. Current choice participation at Consumers Energy is 3,748,737 MWh. As of February 2, Consumers had 3,945 enrollments representing 6,108,468 MWh in its choice queue.
Upper Michigan Energy Resource Corporation reported weather normalized sales as 890,764 MWh for 2017, resulting in a 2018 choice cap of 89,076 MWh. Upper Michigan Energy Resource Corporation's cap tracking system lists current choice participation as "26,6074 MWh" [sic] or 29.87%. Based on the percentage, it is understood that current choice participation at Upper Michigan Energy Resource Corporation is 266,074 MWh. Upper Michigan Energy Resource Corporation has 1 enrollment in its choice queue representing 115,630 MWh
Upper Peninsula Power Company reported weather normalized sales as 811,446 MWh for 2017, resulting in a 2018 choice cap of 81,145 MWh. Per its cap tracking system, Upper Peninsula Power Company's current choice participation is 86,447 MWh. Per its cap tracking system, Upper Peninsula Power Company has 63 customers in the choice queue representing 41,472 MWh
Northern States Power Company (Xcel Energy) reported weather normalized sales as 138,476 MWh for 2017, resulting in a 2018 choice cap of 13,848 MWh. Northern States Power Company currently does not have any customers taking choice service
Wisconsin Electric Power Company reported weather normalized sales as 1,246,491 MWh for 2017, resulting in a 2018 choice cap of 124,649 MWh. However, Wisconsin Electric Power Company's only customer in Michigan is Tilden Mining Company, which under a special contract has agreed not to take choice service
The choice cap at Indiana Michigan Power (AEP) had previously been adjusted to 0% for 2018 pursuant to MCL 460.10a(1)(c). Had the cap not already been set to 0%, the otherwise applicable calculation would have resulted in a cap of 282,507 MWh, based on sales of 2,780,497 MWh
Alpena Power Company’s choice cap had previously been adjusted to 0% for 2018 pursuant to MCL 460.10a(1)(c). Had the cap not already been set to 0%, the otherwise applicable calculation would have resulted in a cap of 35,883 MWh, based on sales of 358,831 MWh
