MISO 2018-19 Capacity Prices Rise From 2017's Near-Historic Lows
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
The Midcontinent ISO's capacity auction for the 2018-19 planning year resulted in a clearing price of $10 per MW-day for all zones except Zone 1 (DPC, GRE, MDU, MP, NSP, OTP, SMP)
Specifically, Zone 4 (Ameren/Downstate Illinois), Zone 7 (DTE/Consumers) and Zone 2 (Michigan-Upper Peninsula) all cleared at $10.00 per MW-day for the 2018-19 delivery year
For the 2017-18 delivery year, all three of these zones with some form of retail choice had cleared at $1.50/MW-day
For 2018-19, Entergy Texas cleared at $10/MW-day as well.
In a news release, MISO said higher prices reflected, "an increase in the planning reserve margin requirement, a decrease in supply and changes in market participant offer behavior."
