The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

Itron, Inc. applied for a Pennsylvania Electric Generation Supplier ("EGS") license

"The primary purpose of this application is so that Itron can continue the PA PeakSaver program that was formerly managed by Comverge and receive customer information from the EDC's [sic] to better manage its customer portfolio. Itron will no longer recruit new customers to the PeakSaver program and will maintain the current levels through the 2019 control season. Itron does not intend to take title to electricity and sell it to end-use customers," Itron stated in its application

Itron is currently a licensed Conservation Service Provider ("CSP") in Pennsylvania providing peak load curtailment services to Electric Distribution Companies ("EDC") under Act 129 and to other end-use customers in the Commonwealth.

Itron further stated in its application, "Itron will be delivering curtailment services to residential electricity customers in Pennsylvania as a continuation of the PA PeakSaver program. Itron will be maintaining the existing program but will not be recruiting new customers to participate. Customers will receive one incentive payment per year for participating in the demand response program, regardless of whether or not a control event is called and can opt out of the program at any time. Comverge called one conservation event in 2014, two in 2015, and one in 2016. For existing customers, Itron (and historically, Comverge) has installed a Digital Cycling Unit (DCU) on or near the customer’s A/C or heat pump, which causes the A/C compressor to cycle 50% during the event versus normal operation. These events do not interfere with an A/C system’s fan operation and air will continue to circulate at the customer’s residence. In addition to the annual incentive ($10), the customer will also receive an incentive of $3 per curtailment event."

Itron applied to act as a broker/marketer under its EGS application, to serve residential and small commercial customers at PECO and PPL
