ERCOT Finds To-Be Mothballed Units Not Needed For Transmission System Reliability
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
ERCOT issued a market notice stating that two City Of Garland generating units which have filed to be mothballed are not needed for transmission system reliability
On June 8, 2018, ERCOT had received a Notification of Suspension of Operations (NSO) for the following Generation Resources:
• CITY OF GARLAND (RE) - Spencer (SPNCE_4)
• CITY OF GARLAND (RE) - Spencer (SPNCE_5)
The NSO had indicated that both Resources will suspend operations on a year-round basis (i.e., mothball) beginning October 3, 2018, with a Seasonal Operation Period of June 1 through September 30.
Pursuant to ERCOT Protocols Section 3.14.1.2.1(2), ERCOT on July 5 issued an initial determination that these Generation Resources are not required to support ERCOT transmission system reliability during the portion of the year when the Generation Resources will be unavailable. Pursuant to Section 3.14.1.2.1(3), such Notice also serves as the final determination, and the Resources may be mothballed seasonally according to the schedule in the NSO.
