PSC Commissioner: Maryland Not "Immune" To Concerns Over Low-Income Customer Retail Choice Participation, Pricing; Expects To Hear More On Issue
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
During the National Energy Marketers Association's July 26 Mid-Atlantic Energy Summit, Maryland PSC Commissioner Odogwu Obi Linton discussed concerns raised by consumer advocates in other states who have alleged higher costs for customers under retail choice versus default service, particularly for low-income customers, and said that Maryland is not "immune" from such questions
As exclusively reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, the Maryland OPC just this week pressed for the PSC to provide data allowing for a comparison of SOS versus retail supply costs
While Linton noted the calls for action in Maryland from consumer advocates has not reached the level seen in other states, he wanted to highlight that the same question is being raised in Maryland as well
"I suspect that over the course of the next six months to year we will hear a lot more about that," Linton said
