MPS Residential, Small C&I Default Service Rate Increasing 14%

The Maine PUC has approved new default service rates at Emera Maine - Maine Public District (MPD, formerly MPS).

For the Residential and Small Commercial Class, the MPS Standard Offer rate shall be $0.08461/kWh, effective January 1, 2019 for a term of 12 months. That's 14% higher than the current rate of $0.07423/kWh

For the Medium Commercial Class at MPS, the following monthly Standard Offer rates were approved ($/kWh):

The rates above result from the PUC's prior order under which prices for customers in the residential and small non-residential and medium non-residential classes for calendar years 2018 and 2019 at MPS are determined by a formula that is indexed to standard offer prices in the comparable standard offer classes for Central Maine Power Company (CMP) and Emera Maine—Bangor Hydro Electric Division (BHD).

The PUC previously designated that New Brunswick Energy Marketing Corporation will serve as the Standard Offer provider for the small and medium classes at MPS
