PPL Electric Utilities saw a spike in the net loss of residential customers on competitive supply during January, while, statewide, Pennsylvania saw the net loss of residential customers on competitive supply once again exceed 10,000

From late December to late January (reporting date varies slightly by utility), Pennsylvania saw the aggregate number of residential customers on competitive supply decline by 10,300 accounts, versus the net decline of 8,200 accounts from late November to late December. Although the monthly net declines in residential shopping has been near 10,000 for several months, the last instance in which the net decline exceeded 10,000 was from late August 2018 to late September 2018

Also notable is that PPL saw the number of residential customers on competitive supply decline by 5,200 accounts from late December to late January. That compares to the net decline of 2,800 residential competitive supply accounts from late November to late December

Note that, for the January 2019 stats posted by the PUC, Duquesne Light has an updated date listed, but its number of residential accounts on competitive supply was identical to the December total -- 160,210 (for all classes, the January 2019 Duquesne Light shopping counts were identical)

The change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each large utility from late December 2018 to late January 2019 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) was:

Duquesne Light [no change as reported]
Met-Ed (1,154)
PECO (2,210)
Penelec (847)
Penn Power (161)
PPL (5,198)
West Penn Power (824)

For comparison, the change in the number of residential customers on competitive supply at each large utility from late November 2018 to late December 2018 (reporting date varies slightly by utility) was:

Duquesne Light (394)
Met-Ed (878)
PECO (3,039)
Penelec (493)
Penn Power (143)
PPL (2,814)
West Penn Power (412)
