SmartestEnergy US LLC has received confirmation from Staff of the New York Department of Public Service that all requirements for the initial state of its eligibility determination as an ESCO have been satisfied.

As exclusively first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com in April, SmartestEnergy is ultimately a subsidiary of the Marubeni Corporation, a major Japanese integrated trading and investment business conglomerate that handles products and provides services in a broad range of sectors, including energy and metals, power projects and plants, transportation and industry machinery, chemical and forest products, and food and consumer products

In the U.K., SmartestEnergy affiliates offer retail electricity supply to businesses as well as wholesale procurement and trading services. It also offers demand response, peak load management, and electricity storage. SmartestEnergy also offers various services to generators including asset optimization

Of its U.K. services, SmartestEnergy says, "Our dynamic 'aggregation-trading-supply' business model provides a route to market for independent generators and large industrial and commercial consumers across the UK."

In the U.K., SmartestEnergy supplies 8 TWh to over 2,500 C&I customers across 11,000 sites

Several more veterans of the U.S. retail energy industry have joined SmartestEnergy US

Earlier this year, Jim Cifaratta joined SmartestEnergy US as Senior Vice President. Cifaratta previously served as Senior Vice President, Operations at BlueRock Energy, and Vice President, Gas Origination and VP, Business Development at Shell Energy North America

Matthew Holleran recently joined SmartestEnergy as Market Development Manager. Holleran previously held several roles at BlueRock Energy and Marathon Energy, where he was Manager - Market Development and Retail

Jessica Gilbert recently joined SmartestEnergy as Partner Account & Customer Care Manager. Gilbert previously served as Customer Care/Inside Sales Manager at Marathon Energy and held various roles at BlueRock Energy

As previously reported, Dave French has joined SmartestEnergy as Vice President of Market Operations. French previously served as Vice President of Operations at energy procurement consultant Benchmark Services, Inc., and previously served as Senior Originator at Shell and Energy Trader & Marketing Director at Select Energy

As previously reported, Megan Quill has joined SmartestEnergy as Vice President, Finance. Quill previously served as Vice President & Controller at BlueRock Energy, Inc.
