The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

In a compliance filing regarding a Transportation Electrification Implementation Plan in the District of Columbia, Pepco said that it would develop educational materials for customers with electric vehicles on whether it would be "advantageous" for them to move to a "Whole House" time of use rate for SOS.

The PSC previously approved Pepco's proposal to offer a Residential Whole House Time-Of-Use Rate for electric vehicles (see story here). The service supplied under this rate is for both electric requirements for residential purposes as well as Plug-in Vehicle battery charging purposes

Furthermore, the PSC authorized Pepco to offer EV customers a green energy "adder" under which EV customers could choose 100% renewable energy while remaining on an SOS for supply (Plug-In Vehicle-Green rider)

Regarding the Whole House TOU Rate, Pepco said, "Pepco’s EV website will contain a section dedicated to the new TOU rate and optional 'Plug-In Vehicle-Green' rider."

"Educational material will be featured to assist customers in determining whether it would be advantageous for them to move to the Whole House TOU rate as well as an application. Interested customers will be directed to complete and submit the application, which will be reviewed by Pepco. Customers who have been approved by Pepco will be notified and moved to the new rate in Pepco’s billing system," Pepco said

The "Whole House" time of use rate, or Schedule "R-PIV", is available to customers who own or lease a plug-in vehicle with an electric range of greater than 30 miles

Under a Pepco tariff filing, the R-PIV rate would include the following rates for the Generation Service Charge under SOS

SCHEDULE "R-PIV"
Generation Service Charge ($/kWh)
               Summer Winter
On-Peak $0.09950 $0.11199
Off-Peak $0.03034 $0.03601
Admin Charge $0.00300 $0.00300

A transmission rate and the Procurement Cost Adjustment would also apply

Pepco also filed a tariff for its Plug-In Vehicle – Green Rider (Rider PIV-Green), which would be open to customers served under Schedule R-PIV and would provide customers with 100% renewable energy on an opt-in basis

Under a filed tariff, the current applicable Rider PIV-Green rate is equal to $0.04717 per kilowatt-hour.
