New Jersey Lifts Advanced Metering Pre-Approval Moratorium, Directs EDCs To File Petitions For AMI Implementation
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
The New Jersey BPU has lifted the moratorium on pre-approval of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) implementation programs
The Board further ordered that Atlantic City Electric, Jersey Central Power and Light, and Public Service Electric and Gas file petitions for AMI implementation, or update previously filed petitions for AMI implementation. Rockland Electric has completed AMI deployment under a prior authorization
Each AMI filing will receive a separate docket number and be independently reviewed by the Board
In lifting the moratorium the BPU found that AMI has the potential to benefit the distribution system, streamline and modernize utility operations, provide an enhanced customer experience, and benefit the environment.
The BPU also noted that the state's energy master plan provides that AMI is a means to achieve various objectives in the plan
