Vistra Energy Reports Total RCE Count, In Sustainability Report

Vistra Energy included in a newly published annual sustainability report its residential customer equivalent (RCE) count as of December 2019.

The metric is notable because, in quarterly earnings reports, the company typically discloses only residential customers (not total RCEs), and, in various company collateral, only provides a less specific number (greater rounding) for its total customer count

The sustainability report states that Vistra serves 4,595,000 retail customers as of December 2019. "This number is representative of RCE’s or residential customer equivalent. A single RCE represents 1,000 therms of natural gas or 10,000 kWh of electricity," the report states

In Vistra's most recent 10-K, for the period ending December 31, 2019, and dated February 28, 2020, Vistra had stated of its retail segment, "We serve approximately 4.6 million customers and operate in 20 states and the District of Columbia."
