Attorney General Closes Investigation Into Retail Supplier

Verde Energy USA Ohio, LLC reported to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio that it, "received a notice from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office that it has decided to close
its consumer protection investigation into Verde Energy."
EnergyChoiceMatters.com had first reported that the Ohio AG had opened an investigation into Verde
Specifically, Verde Energy USA Ohio, LLC had previously disclosed in late 2019 that it was subject to an investigation by the Ohio Attorney General concerning an alleged violation of Consumer Sales Practice Act, Ohio Rev. Code Sec. 1345.01. In an update to its license disclosing the investigation in late 2019, Verde Energy USA Ohio, LLC did not disclose specifically which subpart of Sec. 1345 under which the AG was investigating (.01 relates to definitions), but Sec. 1345 includes a provision relating to the, "Prior, verified consent required to switch natural gas or public telecommunications service provider," in addition to provisions addressing generally, "unfair or deceptive acts or practices," and, "unconscionable consumer sales acts or practices."
In an update to PUCO, Verde listed the status of the AG's investigation as "CLOSED", and listed the date completed as July 15, 2020
