Texas PUC Staff Posts Preliminary Eligibility Determination For Retail Electric Providers To Be Designated As Non-Volunteer POLRs

Staff of the Public Utility Commission of Texas have filed an initial, preliminary list of REPs eligible to serve as non-volunteer Providers of Last Resort (aka Large Service Providers or LSPs) as well as a list of volunteer POLRs (aka Voluntary Retail Electric Providers or VREPs) for the 2021-2022 term

Pursuant to 16 TAC § 25.43(h)(3) and (i)(3), retail electric providers (REPs) may file challenges to Staff's eligibility determination for an LSP to serve as a POLR, an LSP's affiliate to serve as a POLR, and VREPs by September 4, 2020.

After Staff has investigated any challenges, Staff will designate, for each customer class in each service area, up to 15 REPs from the eligible list to serve as LSP POLRs for the 2021-2022 two-year term

The only volunteer POLR, per Staff's preliminary list, is TXU Energy Retail Company LLC, which volunteered as a VREP for the residential, small non-residential, and medium non-residential classes, at Oncor, CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, AEP Texas, and Texas-New Mexico Power. There are no VREPs for the large non-residential class in any service area
