Arizona Commissioner Requests That Record Be Developed In Rate Case On Whether ACC Should Open APS Service Area To Competition
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Arizona Corporation Commissioner Justin Olson has requested that parties develop a record in the current rate case of Arizona Public Service concerning whether the Commission should open up APS's territory to competition
"The public comment sessions held on July 27 and 28 for APS's upcoming rate case made one point
abundantly clear: APS ratepayers want options. Whether they want lower rates, more renewables, or better
customer service, APS ratepayers are tired of being held captive in the current monopoly system for electric
utilities," Olson said
Olson quoted over a dozen public comments opposing the APS monopoly and seeking choice that were provided at recent public comment sessions
"Similar comments can be found in the hundreds of consumer comments filed in this docket already, were
echoed at the September 1 public comment session, and will most certainly be repeated in the five additional
public comment sessions," Olson said
"In response to what the Commission is hearing from APS ratepayers, I would
like to raise the possibility of opening up APS's service territory to competition. I request the parties and
interveners to develop a record on whether the Commission should open up APS's territory to competition
as part of this rate case to address these issues raised by APS customers," Olson said
