Green Mountain Energy for Texas residential customers announced a new Riding on Sunshine initiative to support electric vehicle (EV) adoption by offering customers in Texas two new electricity plans, as well as an EV-shopping tool, and a free EV charger to promote home charging through the use of solar energy.

The EV Charger Promotion provides customers with a free Level 2 charger, up to $1,100 in value, when customers install a solar panel system that would supply enough electricity for a future EV. Green Mountain’s preferred installation company, Green Light Solar, handles the rooftop panels and EV charger installation. "Additionally, Green Mountain provides customers with an exclusive solar rebate to help them save on installation costs," the company said

Green Mountain Energy launched a new "Solar All Nighter" electricity plan tailored for EV charging, which includes 100% solar energy sourced from solar parks and provides a lower fixed rate between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

In the Oncor service area, the Solar All Nighter Plan 12 is an indexed TOU plan with a term of 12 months, with an average all-in rate, at 1,000 kWh, of 11.4¢ per kWh, with pricing components shown below:

Daytime Energy Charge: 8.3899¢ per kWh

Nighttime Energy Charge: 5.3899¢ per kWh

Oncor Charges $3.42 per cycle: 3.8890¢ per kWh

Average price calculation is based on usage profile over 12 months of 42% of consumption at nighttime. Nighttime Energy Charge applies to usage from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM every day.

A $150 early termination fee applies to the Solar All Nighter Plan 12

Green Mountain Energy also launched a "Solar with Green Mountain Driver" electricity plan that includes additional carbon offsets, intended to offset driving, in addition to providing 100% solar energy for electricity usage. Specifically, the plan includes in its price offsets bundled covering 5 metric tons. In the Oncor service area, the Solar with Green Mountain Driver 12 plan is a 12-month fixed plan that has an average all-in rate of 11.9¢ per kWh, reflecting an Energy Charge of 7.6899¢ per kWh and Oncor Electric Delivery Charges of $3.42 per month and 3.8890¢ per kWh. A $150 early termination fee applies

Green Mountain Energy is also teaming up with Group 1 Automotive, an operator in the automotive retailing industry, to provide an EV-shopping tool to help EV enthusiasts locate a vehicle that fits their lifestyle and needs, at no cost. Anyone interested in purchasing or leasing an EV can now access Green Mountain’s EV-shopping tool to get connected with a Group 1 VIP coordinator, who will provide professional guidance in the shopping process and search across 118 Group 1 dealers nationwide
