The Pennsylvania PUC granted Texas Retail Energy LLC, the retail electric supplier owned by Walmart an amended electric supplier license to, among other things, include service to residential customers
In its application for the amendment, responses from Texas Retail Energy also suggested that it would begin "marketing" electricity service, which contrasted to its original application which had stated that, "No marketing will be required as Texas Retail Energy will be providing electricity to only facilities within the same corporate family."
Specifically, under the amended license, Texas Retail Energy LLC may now serve residential, small commercial (demand under 25 kW), and large commercial (over 25 kW), industrial, and governmental customers in all of the electric distribution company service territories throughout Pennsylvania.
Previously, Texas Retail Energy (TRE) had been authorized to serve only small commercial (25 kW and under demand) and large commercial (over 25 kW demand) customers at Duquesne Light Company, Metropolitan Edison Company, PECO Energy Company, Pennsylvania Electric Company, Pennsylvania Power Company, PPL Electric Utilities, Inc., and West Penn Power Company.
