Vistra "Absolutely" Interested In Opportunistic Retail Growth

Vistra Is Watching Market, Don't Be Surprised By Retail Acquisitions In Next Year Or Two

During a call earlier this week updating investors on the impact to Vistra from the ERCOT winter weather event (see story here), Vistra's chief executive officer Curt Morgan said that the company is "absolutely" interested in opportunistic retail growth

"We're waiting," Morgan said of retail acquisitions, as the retail market waits to see any potential legislative action on securitization, which may affect the business position of potential retail targets. Morgan also noted the ongoing bankruptcy proceedings for several Texas retail electric providers.

"We're watching all that," Morgan said

Morgan noted that Vistra has been positioning itself, from a debt and liquidity standpoint, to have the strength to be opportunistic, particularly on the retail side

In retail, "we think there are [retail] opportunities that will surface over time, and we're obviously prepared to be a part of that," Morgan said

"I would not be surprised that you'll see us do some things on that [retail] in the next year or two," Morgan said

"We love our retail business, it continues to be one of the strengths of our company," Morgan said
