Retail Supplier Purchases RECs To Offset Entire Load In Q2, Going Forward

During an earnings call, Spark Energy CEO Keith
Maxwell, said that Spark purchased Renewable Energy Credits to offset all of its electric and natural gas load in the second quarter of 2021, and will continue to do that on a go-forward basis.
"This is just the beginning as we plan on exploring all options including wind, hydro, and solar generation, along with other special projects in the renewable space. The Company's goals going forward are easily summarized; 1. Make the world a more environmentally sustainable place and; 2. Increase our Adjusted EBITDA through growing our existing book and vertically integrating our business model over time. We believe this will provide additional financial stability and opportunities in the market that would benefit all of our stakeholders," Maxwell said in a news release
Maxwell said that the REC purchases represent the first step as part of Spark's previously reported rebrand and pivot to renewables and ESG-focused strategies
As first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, as part of this effort, Spark is today holding a shareholder vote to amend the company's certificate of incorporation to change the name of the company to Via Renewables, Inc.
