Texas Retail Vets Launching New "White Label" Retail Provider(s) For BTM Providers, Other Low Carbon Devs ('Rent a REP')

MI Texas REP 1 applied for an Option 1 Texas retail electric provider certificate

MI Texas REP 1 is ultimately a unit of Mothership Energy Group (a trade name of Mothership LLC) which, among other energy services, offers the "Mothership Incubator", which, "will operate an Option1 [sic] REP licensed in ERCOT on your behalf for your customers, offering a true white labeled REP that you control."

Described as "Rent a Retail Electricity Provider", the Incubator states that it has been tailored to support serving loads with behind-the-meter generation, while Mothership Energy Group itself generally focuses on services aimed at renewable, storage, and low carbon energy solutions.

"Mothership Incubator operates front-, mid-, and back-office REP functions and assumes all commodity, licensing, and compliance risks. We have negotiated vendor agreements that are tailored to support serving loads with behind-the-meter generation, including special considerations for net-metering, asset aggregation, and wholesale and ancillary services market participation," Mothership Energy Group states

Maura Yates serves as CEO of Mothership Energy Group. Yates was most recently VP of Solar and Sustainable Solutions for MP2 Energy. Yates has also held positions at SunEdison, Standard Renewable Energy, and Arizona Public Service

Calin Brammer serves as COO of MI Texas REP 1 and works in business development at Mothership Energy Group. Brammer previously served as a senior energy analyst at MP2 Energy and has held positions at SunPower and Sunrun

Allison Dorr works in business development at Mothership Energy Group. Dorr previously held several roles at Pacific Summit Energy, including power originator and senior associate, business development

MI Texas REP 1 sought to use the trade name "Abacus Energy Retail Electricity," which has been newly registered with the Texas Secretary of State. A Texas REP formerly used the name "Abacus Resources Energy, LLC," but such former REP had its certificate revoked in 2012 for defaulting at ERCOT

MI Texas REP 1 applied to have the option of collecting deposits or advance payments from customers

According to Texas Secretary of State records, the sole member of MI Texas REP 1 is MI TEXAS, LLC. The sole member of MI TEXAS, LLC is Mothership Incubator, LLC. The sole member of Mothership Incubator, LLC is Mothership LLC. According to Texas Secretary of State records, the members of Mothership LLC are Sarah Devon, Maura Yates, Renslem Capital LP and Whale Capital LP
