PUC Selects Provider For REC Add-On Program Offered To Default Service, Other Customers

The Maine PUC selected 3Degrees Group, Inc. (3Degrees) to manage, for a term of five years beginning January 1, 2022, the state-wide Maine Green Power (MGP) REC add-on program offered through the State’s transmission and distribution utilities, Central Maine Power Company (CMP) and Versant Power (Versant).
The PUC's decision was based on an examination of the proposals submitted in response to a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued on September 8, 2021.
3Degrees currently manages the MGP program through a term ending in 2021
Under the latest award, 3Degrees will maintain the existing block structure (1 block = 500 kWh per month) with no increase in price from the current MGP pricing.
Prices will be fixed for the five-year term as follows:
• ½ Block = $4.95
• 1-9 Blocks = $8.95/block
• 10+ Blocks = $6.45/block
The PUC accepted 3Degrees's plan that 1) all of the supply be from Maine-located resources; 2) as much supply as possible from Maine Class I eligible resources; 3) remaining demand to be met with ME Class II RECs; and 4) supply from facilities where the RECs are not double claimed, ensuring that MGP customers are receiving the renewable energy they are legally entitled to. However, as with the current MGP program, 3Degrees will develop contractual language allowing 3Degrees to source alternative RECs should the Maine Class I and Maine Class II markets experience unforeseeable price increases or shortages
