Lubbock Power and Light Board Endorses Staff Recommendation On POLR, Continues To Move Forward On Adopting Retail Choice

During a meeting today, Lubbock Power and Light's electric utility board broadly endorsed certain LP&L Staff recommendations concerning a potential move to retail electric choice
Although a formal vote by the city council and board is still required for the utility to opt-in to retail choice, the Board during a discussion informally agreed with Staff's recommendation that a provider of last resort for the territory should be chosen through an RFP, and that LP&L should not serve as the POLR. Staff was given direction to proceed with the POLR RFP selection process
The Staff proposal contemplates customers making a selection of a REP prior to go-live, and a random assignment process for any customers who have not made a selection
Retail choice would not be introduced until late 2023, after integration of the remaining portion of LP&L into ERCOT occurs by June 2023.
