TXU Launches "First-of-its-Kind Solution" For Electric Vehicle Owners
The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com
Vistra today announced the launch of a new residential retail electricity product in Texas, provided under the TXU brand, which it called, "a first-of-its-kind plan that uses electric vehicle data to allow free home charging -- every day -- and provides power backed by 100% renewable sources for all home energy needs."
Vistra said, "With TXU Energy Free EV Miles, customers get to drive more miles for less money with a 100% discount on all home EV charging every evening from 7 p.m. through 1 p.m. the next day – 125 hours each week for free. Customers will see their free charging usage and free miles on each monthly billing statement. If an owner needs to charge outside of the free hours, they will pay a simple, fixed rate – the same as the rest of their home."
In the Oncor service area, TXU's Free EV Miles 12 plan is a 100% renewable, 12-month fixed rate with an average all-in rate, at 1,000 kWh, of 18.3¢ per kWh, which reflects a base charge of $9.95 per month, an energy charge of 17.1¢ per kWh, and a pass-through of TDU charges.
This Average Price per kWh reflects a Free EV Charging Credit that assumes 230 kWh of Home EV Charging
of which 91% of the kWh are assumed to occur during the Free EV Charging Hours. Home EV Charging occurring
outside of the Free EV Charging Hours will be charged the Full Energy Charge and TDU Delivery Charge per kWh.
A $150.00 early cancellation fee applies to the Free EV Miles 12 plan
What ostensibly makes the product unique is the manner in which the free EV charging is determined
"Usage for Home EV Charging occurring during the Free EV Charging Hours is determined from telematics data
which you authorize TXU Energy to access when you connect your vehicle on our telematics platform," the EFL states
"Multiple
electric vehicles are supported on this plan as long as the vehicles are registered and authorized to the plan holder’s
Service Address through TXU Energy’s telematics platform. If you do not connect your electric vehicle to our
telematics platform, you will not receive a discount for your associated Home EV Charging during Free EV Charging
Hours. You must provide a valid email address to enroll on this plan," the EFL states
"Free EV Charging Credits will be applied on a
calendarized basis, not on your meter read cycle, and be applied in arrears (example: Home EV Charging occurring
from January 1 through January 31 will be applied as January Free EV Charging Credits on your February bill). At
the end of your product term or in the event of a switch-out, move-out or swaps, we will use your last 3 months of
Free EV Charging Credits to provide you with an averaged, prorated Free EV Charging Credit," the EFL states
Scott Hudson, president of Vistra's retail division, said, "The technology behind this product, which allows customers to manage their EVs separate from whole home energy consumption, opens the door to endless possibilities. Vistra looks forward to partnering with customers in all deregulated markets to provide custom solutions that make going electric the easy, smart choice."
