The following story is brought free of charge to readers by EC Infosystems, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

During yesterday's open meeting, Texas PUC Commissioner Jimmy Glotfelty said that, in response to the PUC providing a forum for customers to express support for retail electric choice in service areas not open to competition, the PUC received only one response favoring electric choice in the Entergy Texas service area

As exclusively first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, Glotfelty last year led the opening of a project (52760) at the Commission to house customer comments in favor of electric choice at the non-ERCOT utilities. The project was not an investigation or study, but was meant as a repository for customers to express their views on whether such non-choice areas should be opened to customer choice (see more details here)

Glotfelty said at yesterday's open meeting that, "One of the first things that I did was that I asked if people wanted competition in the Southeast, in Entergy's service territory, and we got one 'yes'".

Glotfelty's remarks were made as the Commission considered a CCN for a new Entergy power plant, as Glotfelty noted that Entergy retains an obligation to serve

In terms of the comments filed publicly in Project 52760, there were three parties filing comments in support of competition specifically at SWEPCO, one party filing comments in support of competition at SPS, and one party which submitted comments in favor of competition without identifying their utility, but which had stated that they are a producer in the East Texas Field (which generally would be SWEPCO's territory). No comments adverse to electric choice were filed in the project
