Energy Texas recently announced that it is offering customers protection plans, from American International Group, Inc. (AIG), for essential home systems and electronics

Programs include electric system protection, surge protection, electric vehicle charger protection, and air conditioning protection

Pricing and details are below.

Separately, Energy Texas previewed a new residential electricity plan that will soon launch that is intended for residential customers who are moving.

Energy Texas described the plan as follows in a recent blog post: "With a low introductory rate for your first month, you can get the lowest rate in the market and not worry about your electricity bill while you’re busy moving."

The plan will include a $25 DoorDash gift card (or comparable if the company can’t find DoorDash). Further details are to be announced in the future.

Details on the new protection programs are as follows:

Air Conditioning Protection Program - $29.99/mo

• Covers the cost of repairing the customer's air conditioning system in case of a structural or operational failure. If the system is beyond repair, customers can receive a cash settlement of up to $3,000 per year, minus any prior claims paid. With this program, customers can receive up to $800 per incident for covered repairs, up to the maximum annual limit of $3,000

Electric System Protection Program - $6.99/mo

• For a home’s internal electrical system and external connections that the homeowner is responsible for, the program pays for covered service calls and repairs up to the maximum annual limit of $10,000

Surge Protection Program - $5.99/mo

• Customers can receive coverage for reimbursement, repair, or replacement of items damaged by a surge event, with coverage up to the eligible item’s original purchase price and up to the maximum annual limit of $5,000

Electric Vehicle Charger Protection Program - $4.99/mo

• The program covers structural or operational failure of Level 2, 240-volt electric vehicle chargers due to defects in materials, workmanship, or power surges. If the customer's EV Charger requires covered repair or replacement, the program will arrange and pay for it up to the maximum annual limit of $2,500. The program also provides repair coverage for accessories included in the original packaging.
