Nstar Basic Service Rates Falling 30%, Still Over 15% Higher Than Multiple Current Retail Supplier Residential Offers

Nstar has filed new electricity basic service rates for its Western service area (WCMA load zone, former WMECO territory) for the period beginning July 1, 2023

All rates in this story reflect retail prices that include the Basic Service Adders, and the Renewable Portfolio Standard, Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard, Clean Energy Standard, and Clean Peak Standard Adders, respectively

For residential customers, the July 1 WMECO fixed basic service rate will be 14.854¢/kWh, or 32% lower than the current rate of 21.991¢/kWh

Multiple retail suppliers have posted on EnergySwitchMA current residential offers that are still 15% or more below the new July 1 WMECO rate, and which do not include an extraordinary long term (terms range from 6 months to 18 months). Even more suppliers have rates that are still 1 cent to 5 mills below the new WMECO basic service rate

For Small C&I customers, the July 1 WMECO fixed basic service rate will be 15.513¢/kWh, or 31% lower than the current rate of 22.515¢/kWh
