The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

Energy Texas has launched a new Texas retail electric plan offering, "Build Your Own Plan", which is described as, "a fully customizable plan as far as term length, programs, etc."

The Build Your Own Plan program prompts customers to select their term length, whether the customer wishes to sign up for autopay, and whether the customer wishes to receive paperless communications

A 2,000 kWh usage average EFL rate is presented at each step. The customer may elect to stop the process and check-out at any point, at which point they may review the EFL, or instead continue the building process to review other potential add-ons and programs.

If the customer continues with the process, the program then asks customers whether they wish to participate in (1) Rangler Rewards (rewards for choices and/or behaviors such as on-time payments, autopay, etc.); (2) Giddy Up Guarantee (eligible for lower pricing based on actual usage after sign-up); and/or Freedom Flex (re-rate of the contract up to once every 30 days, for a monthly subscription charge $4.95 per month). Rangler Rewards and the Giddy Up Guarantee are actually provided to all customers, free of charge, regardless of the customer selection, but were added to the build your own plan process to make the process more engaging and creative for customers

The program then asks customers whether they wish: (1) to receive an ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced (a separate cost of $174.99 under a 12-month term selection), which includes automatic enrollment in Energy Texas's Peak Perk Plus Rewards Energy Response Program (which includes remote control of the thermostat by Energy Texas), or (2) enroll in Peak Perks, the voluntary program which provides rewards for reducing usage in response to Energy Texas notifications.

The program then asks customers whether they (1) have solar panels and want to enroll in the Sun Jacinto solar buyback program, (2) are interested in learning about rooftop solar, (3) have a pool or EV.

The program then asks customers whether they wish to sign up, for a separate monthly cost, Energy Texas's Air Conditioning Protection Program, Electric System Protection Program, or Surge Protection Program, offered through AIG

As available as of publication time, the program asks customers if they would like a $50 sign-up bonus paid via Amazon gift card or Energy Texas gift card
