The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio won't delay consideration of the FirstEnergy Ohio electric utilities' "Grid Mod II" application until benefits can be demonstrated under a prior "Grid Mod I" implementation, as has been requested by some consumer parties

PUCO was addressing an audit of Grid Mod I, which included an AMI roll-out to 700,000 customers

Grid Mod II is proposed to include an additional 700,000 AMI meters, as well as further collaboration to address retail supplier concerns to be able to access and use the AMI data to provide innovative products. See background here

Note that PUCO is only not delaying consideration of the Grid Mod II application, and PUCO is not addressing whether ultimate approval of Grid Mod II should, or should not, be linked to any benefits demonstrated, or not demonstrated, under Grid Mod I. The Grid Mod II application remains pending before PUCO.

PUCO said, "We choose not to delay the Grid Mod II case, noting that the recommendations proposed by the auditor can and should be implemented in Grid Mod II."
