Spark Energy Launches Residential Electric Service at ComEd

Email This Story
January 25, 2011

Spark Energy has started offering residential electric service at Commonwealth Edison.

Spark is offering on its website a 12-month fixed rate of 6.98¢/kWh.  The product does not include an early termination fee.

Spark will use utility consolidated billing for the residential product, as well as for its small commercial Illinois products (customers under 100 kW).  Because ComEd provides utility consolidated bills only for those retail customers for which it is purchasing the retail suppliers' receivables, Spark Energy is necessarily using POR to serve its Illinois small volume customers.

Spark Energy is the first retail supplier making a market-wide offer to residential customers under POR.  Both BlueStar Energy Services and Champion Energy, while offering residential supply, are using supplier consolidated billing.  As first reported in Matters, Constellation NewEnergy anticipates beginning ComEd residential service in late February or early March, but has not yet indicated a billing type (1/18).

Other suppliers licensed to serve residential customers at ComEd include Direct Energy, FirstEnergy Solutions, Integrys Energy Services, Just Energy, and Liberty Power.  None list any current ComEd residential offers on their websites.

Spark Energy is not offering residential service in Ameren at this time.
