Reliant Plans to Serve All Customer Classes in All Markets Where Active for Large Customers, Residential Offers Launched in Pennsylvania

Reliant Energy told Matters yesterday that its plan is to serve all classes of customers in the states where it offers service to large commercial and industrial customers.

While Reliant has recently expanded its licenses in several Northeast states to include residential service, it had not previously confirmed intentions to serve all customer classes in all of its territories.

Notably, while Reliant said in an application before the Illinois Commerce Commission that it provides residential and small commercial services in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C., Reliant had not previously indicated any small volume plans for other markets where it serves large commercial customers, such as Delaware and Massachusetts.

Reliant also has a pending application for a Connecticut electric license to serve all customer classes (Only in Matters, 5/20).

The Maryland and New Jersey residential offers were first reported in Matters (5/26), but were initially limited to telephonic enrollment and not actively marketed.

However, at Maryland and now Pennsylvania, Reliant is accepting residential enrollments online in a process launched just late this week.

In each state, Reliant's residential product offering is a 12-month fixed rate with a $150 early termination fee priced as follows (cents per kWh):
Duquesne Light: 7.19
Met-Ed: 8.19
PECO: 8.99
Penelec: 6.89
PPL: 8.29
West Penn Power: 6.79

Baltimore Gas & Electric: 9.09
Delmarva-Md.: 8.59
Pepco-Md.: 8.89
Potomac Edison: 6.79

Online enrollment does not appear to be available for residential service at New Jersey or Washington D.C. at this time based on several zip codes entered.

Reliant confirmed that its application for an amendment to its Illinois alternative retail electric supplier license, only reported in Matters (6/28), is to add service to residential customers and non-residential customers with usage under 15,000 kWh annually at Commonwealth Edison only. Currently, Reliant may serve all other classes at ComEd.
