Reliant Energy to Supply Redskins, NRG Installing Solar

Reliant Energy will be the official provider for all of the electricity to power FedExField in Landover, Maryland, home of the Washington Redskin, under an agreement under which NRG Energy will also install 2 MW of solar generation at the stadium. The deal also includes various NRG branding opportunities, as well as 10 electric vehicle charging stations from NRG's eVgo charging network. As only noted in Matters, Reliant is now offering residential electric service in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the District of Columbia (see 7/1).


New York Incumbent Generators File Yet Another ICAP Buyer-Side Market Power Complaint

Astoria Generating Company, L.P. and TC Ravenswood, LLC have submitted yet another complaint at FERC regarding buyer-side market power in the New York ISO, parroting the same claims made in similar complaints, but now specifically seeking to impose offer floors on the new 575 MW generating facility owned by Astoria Energy II LLC and potentially the approximately 512 MW generating facility being developed by Bayonne Energy Center, LLC. Astoria Generating Company, L.P. and TC Ravenswood, LLC complain of a cratering in the ICAP prices as a result of the new Astoria Energy II facility competing in the ICAP auctions, and wish to extract higher capacity prices from load (Docket EL11-52).


Md. PSC Sets Hearing on SOS Type II Mitigation Refund

The Maryland PSC will accept through August 10 responses to a motion for the PSC to address the remand of prior Type II SOS rate mitigation. A hearing on the matter was set for August 19. As only noted by Matters, RG Steel Sparrows Point, LLC and the Maryland Energy Group have petitioned the PSC to issue refunds to certain Type II customers whose SOS rates were increased to mitigate rates for customers migrating from Type I to Type II service, due to a court holding such mitigation was unlawful (see 6/23).


Aero Energy Launches New Website

Aero Energy has launched a redesigned website for its natural gas supply service in several Mid-Atlantic states. Aero Energy, jointly owned by several cooperatives, serves large customers at UGI, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, PECO, Philadelphia Gas Works, Baltimore Gas & Electric, Washington Gas Light, Columbia Gas of Maryland, Chesapeake Utilities Maryland, Delmarva, Chesapeake Utilities Delaware, Columbia Gas of Virginia, and Virginia Natural Gas.
