The Maryland PSC granted FirstEnergy Solutions an expanded electric supplier license to include service to residential customers in all service areas.

FirstEnergy Solutions told Matters that it anticipates launching residential offers in Maryland in the fourth quarter of 2011, which could mean active marketing may begin as early as October.

FirstEnergy Solutions' application to serve residential customers was first reported in Matters (5/27).

Previously, parent FirstEnergy Corp. indicated that FirstEnergy Solutions would be an active participant in the Maryland residential electric market as a proposed benefit from the FirstEnergy-Allegheny Energy merger (5/28/10).

FirstEnergy Solutions had held authority to serve non-residential customers in Maryland since 2000.
