Nations Power Undergoes Change in Control, Serving Customers Again

Nations Power, LLC recently elected the addition of a new partner that resulted in a change of control event, it said in a REP certificate amendment at the PUCT. Specifically, J. Michael Shivers was added to the management team as LLC Manager, President, and CEO. Nations Power also filed for use of the trade name Nations Power & Gas. Notably, Nations Power said that it was currently serving customers in ERCOT. Nations Power had sold its prior book to Apollo Power & Light (Weir Investments Fund, LLC) in the spring (4/1).


CL&P Reports Last Resort Service Supplier

Connecticut Light and Power reported that PPL EnergyPlus, LLC will supply 100% of CL&P's Last Resort Service supplies for the three-month period beginning October 1.


BHE Reports Standard Offer Supplier

Bangor Hydro-Electric reported that Dominion Retail will serve 100% of BHE's medium non-residential Standard Offer load for the six-month period beginning September 1.


Maine PUC Opens Inquiry into Smart Grid Data, Privacy Issues

The Maine PUC issued a Notice of Inquiry into cyber security and privacy issues regarding smart meters and related systems (2011-274). Among other things, the PUC asked whether non-utilities should be allowed to receive customer information made available through smart meters and smart meter related equipment. If these third parties are allowed to receive customer information, what protections are or should be put in place to protect customer privacy, the PUC asks.


O'Malley Appoints Two to Maryland PSC

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley has appointed Kevin Hughes and Kelly Speakes-Backman to the PSC. Hughes has served as O'Malley's deputy legislative officer since 2007, and previously was an analyst for the Department of Legislative Services. Hughes was appointed to a five-year term expiring in 2016. Speakes-Backman was most recently the clean energy director at the Maryland Energy Administration. Speakes-Backman was appointed to fill a term expiring in 2014. Separately, the PSC named Terry J. Romine, previously Executive Secretary, as the new Chief Public Utility Law Judge in the recently renamed Public Utility Law Judge Division, formerly called the Hearing Examiner Division.
