Northeastern Ohio Residential Aggregation, Ltd. Receives License

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio granted Northeastern Ohio Residential Aggregation, Ltd., an electric broker/aggregator license to serve all customer classes in all service areas. As only reported by Matters, NORA Ltd. said that it will focus in particular on aggregating multi-tenant properties, including entering into agreements that contemplate new tenants will be presented the opportunity to opt-into the program upon signing a lease. The Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council and AEP Energy, Inc. had raised concerns with NORA's business model, but PUCO, noting existing customer protection rules, found that, "the speculation regarding potential problems," has no bearing on whether NORA is, "managerially, financially, or technically fit and capable of providing competitive retail electric service in this state," which is the standard for granting a license.
