Direct Energy Offering Free Power To Delaware Customers, As State-Sanctioned Affinity Program Launches

In touting its selection as the, "Electric Retail Supplier Exclusively Contracted by the State of Delaware," Direct Energy noted that it is offering free system power to Delaware residential customers who install a rooftop solar system

As first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com, Direct Energy was selected via RFP by Delaware Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock as the supplier under the state's opt-in electricity affinity program. The program permits Direct Energy to market to 315,000 residents and small businesses in the Delmarva territory, as well as such customers at Delaware Electric Cooperative, which has 84,000 customers, as the Electric Retail Supplier Exclusively Contracted by the State of Delaware

For residential customers at Delmarva, Direct Energy is offering through the program the following options, with all rates fixed for 24 months:

• 7.99¢/kWh

• 8.14¢/kWh, plus HVAC repair plan ($100 value)

• 8.38¢/kWh, plus Nest thermostat ($249 retail value)

Direct said that Delmarva's current residential price to compare is 9.810¢/kWh

Direct Energy further said that it is offering rooftop systems designed to target savings of up to 20 percent over the customers' current retail price, with all solar customers receiving 12 months of free electricity for the balance of their energy consumption not supplied by solar.

For small commercial customers at Delmarva, Direct Energy is offering a fixed rate of 7.65¢/kWh fixed for 24 months. For the same rate, business customers may elect a Nest thermostat, but which includes a $200 device recovery fee if the customer terminates service

Direct said that Delmarva's current business price to compare is 8.06¢/kWh
