Enel Receives Retail Supplier License In New State

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio granted Enel Trading North America, LLC a retail electric supplier license to serve all customer classes in all service areas.

Enel's creation of a retail supplier, which has already received a REP certificate in Texas, had been first reported by EnergyChoiceMatters.com

"Enel'[s] plan is to use retail to expand its renewable offering with shorter term, smaller size contracts to mainly sell the energy from our renewable portfolio," the company said in its Ohio application

Target customers will be large commercial, industrial, and governmental customers (over 25 kW), with an initial focus of reaching out to Enel PJM demand response C&I clients.

In its Ohio application, Enel Trading North America stated that, as Enel North America, Enel manages over 2,000 commercial and industrial clients, including their demand response programs, and serves around 100 C&I customers through wholesale renewable PPAs and/or interfacing and scheduling the energy directly with their retail electric provider. Enel Trading North America also serves wholesale load under default service auctions, including in Ohio

Enel Trading North America is active in the PJM RECs market, selling environmental attributes related to the productions of its renewable assets.

Enel owns and operates in PJM two wind farms with a total installed capacity of around 250 MW and has a plan to build more wind and solar plants in the next few years.
