The following story is brought free of charge to readers by VertexOne, the exclusive EDI provider of EnergyChoiceMatters.com

Ford Motor Company and TXU Energy announced a new retail energy offering for Ford electric SUV and truck customers in Texas that includes free EV charging during 18 hours each day

The TXU Energy Free EV Miles program offers participating Ford EV customers credit on their TXU Energy bill for all electricity used to charge their vehicle during the free off-peak charging hours, between 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. the next day, all year long. The credit reflects both energy and volumetric TDU charges related to the usage

EV charging outside of those hours will be subject to the same fixed rate applied to other household usage

"Ford and TXU Energy will test customer interest in additional future retail electricity offerings that further incentivize customers to support grid stability in Texas," the companies said

The program is open to 2021 or later Ford EVs and Plug-in Hybrids, including the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and Escape PHEV with an active modem and an active Ford account

Enrollments by such Ford owners onto the Free EV Miles energy plan includes a $100 welcome bonus from Ford (via prepaid card), and a $250 bonus from TXU Energy for staying enrolled for a year.

The TXU Energy Free EV Miles plan includes a fixed energy rate and is offered under various term lengths

In the Oncor service area, TXU's Energy Free EV Miles 24 plan is a 24-month fixed plan that includes an average all-in rate, at 1,000 kWh usage, of 18.4¢ per kWh, which reflects a base charge of $9.95 per month, an energy charge of 16.8000¢ per kWh, and a pass-through of TDU charges. The average price per kWh reflects a Free EV Charging Credit that assumes 230 kWh of Home EV Charging of which 91% of the kWh are assumed to occur during the Free EV Charging Hours.

An early cancellation fee of $295 applies

The plan is 100% renewable
